MONDAY, MARCH 19TH:

First, Fifth, and Sixth Periods:

Warm-up exercise: SIX WAY PARAGRAPH
Write a short story using ten of your vocabulary words from VOCABULARY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT; pages 61 - 68; exercises 9 - 15.

First and Fifth Periods:

Show the first scene of the Zefferelli ROMEO and JULIET.

Read and act out the first scene from ROMEO and JULIET.

Sixth Period:

Read ENDER’S GAME.

Third Period:

Read and act out Act One, Scenes 1, 2, and 3 from ROMEO and JULIET.
Work on the “Oxymoron” handout.

TUESDAY, MARCH 20TH:

First, Fifth and Sixth Periods:

Your vocabulary homework is due today; VOCABULARY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT; pages 61 - 86; exercises 9 - 15.

Warm-up exercise: Write a short story using ten of your vocabulary words from your homework.

First and Fifth Periods:

Read and act out Act One; Scenes 1, 2, and 3 from ROMEO and Juliet.
Work on the “Oxymoron” handout.

Third Period:

Your ENGLISH WORKSHOP; pages 155 - 156; “Participial Phrases” is due
today. Play participial game.

Read and act out scenes from Act One of ROMEO and JULIET.

Look up examples of similes, metaphors and personification from Act One. Draw pictures to illustrate the literary figures.
Sixth Period:

Read ENDER’S GAME.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21ST:

First and Fifth Periods:

Pass out ENGLISH WORKSHOP; assign prepositional phrases; pages 142 - 143; exercises 1 and 2. This is will be due on Friday, March 23rd.

Watch Act 1 in ROMEO and JULIET.


Third Period:

If we get our new vocabulary books today, then you will be assigned Unit 1 in your VOCABULARY WORKSHOP, level D. The vocabulary homework will be due on Tuesday, March 27th.

Watch Act One, Scenes four and five from ROMEO and JULIET.

Work on “Queen Mab” speech. Write out passages from Mercutio’s “Queen Mab” speech and then draw pictures illustrating the passages.


Sixth Period:

Assign first exercise from SENTENCE COMBINING. This will be due on Friday, March 23rd.

Thursday, March 22nd:

First, Third and Fifth Periods:

Find examples of similes, metaphors, and personification in Act One. Write them down, identify which category the phrases fall under and then draw pictures of them.

Work on “Queen Mab” speech. Write out four passages from Mercutio’s “Queen Mab” speech and then draw pictures illustrating the passages.




Sixth Period:

Work on writing a short story, using our sentence combining technique, and our vocabulary words from pages 61 - 68.

Read ENDER’S GAME.


Friday, March 23rd:

First and Fifth Periods:

Your ENGLISH WORKSHOP homework is due today; “participial phrases”; pages 147 - 148.

First, Third and Fifth Periods:

Work on masks for the party scene in ROMEO and JULIET.

Work on Act 1, Scene 5 from ROMEO and JULIET, “The Party Scene”. We will block it, rehearse and then perform it.


Third Period:

At the conclusion of Act One, you will be given a test over comprehension, and literary terms.


Sixth Period:

Your SENTENCE COMBINING homework is due today.

ENDER’S GAME Handout will be given.
