TUESDAY, MAY 13TH:

FIRST and SECOND PERIODS:

Begin reading Act 5 of ROMEO and JULIET.

Pass out Act 5 vocabulary handouts.

FIFTH PERIOD:

Please bring your grammar book to class today. Assign ENGLISH WORKSHOP; “Adjective Clauses”; pages 163-164; exercises 2 and 3; due on Thursday, May 15th.

Begin reading Act 4 of ROMEO and JULIET, and of course, working on our reading logs.


WEDNESDAY, MAY 14TH:

FIRST PERIOD:

Please bring your grammar book to class today. Assign ENGLISH WORKSHOP; “Appositives and Appositive Phrases”; pages 165-166; exercise 13; due on Friday, May 16th.

SECOND PERIOD:

Please bring your grammar book to class today. Assign ENGLISH WORKSHOP; “Appositives and Appositive Phrases”; pages 157-158; exercise 15-16; due on Friday, May 16th.

THURSDAY, MAY 15TH:

FIRST and SECOND PERIODS:

Finish reading ROMEO and JULIET! (I hope!)

Get together in groups of three: read Romeo’s speech in Juliet’s tomb; identify at least one example of personification, metaphor, and simile in his monologue. Write the quotation down; illustrate it; and then rewrite the quotation in contemporary English.

Brief review over Act 5 of ROMEO and JULIET.


FIFTH PERIOD:

Your ENGLISH WORKSHOP homework is due today; “Adjective Clauses”; pages 163-164; exercises 2 and 3.

Go over Act 4 vocabulary handout today.

FRIDAY, MAY 16th:

FIRST and SECOND PERIODS:

Your ENGLISH WORKSHOP homework over “appositives” is due today.

If we are finished with the play, we will have the final test (yippee!) today. Remember, your handout for the act is due at the time of the test.

Next week we will break into groups to rewrite and perform one of the major scenes from the play for a grade.

On Monday you will be given an essay topic on ROMEO and JULIET. This essay will be due on Wednesday, May 21st.

After you have turned in the essay and performed the rewrite, you will then turn in your reading log. Don’t blow this off - it’s a major part of your grade.


FIFTH PERIOD:

If we are finished with Act 4 we will have a test today over the act. Your vocabulary, grammar and literary packets are due on the day of the test.
