June 13th Weekly Schedule
for 9th Grade Honors

Monday, June 13th:

We are now reading Ender’s Game. The assignment over the weekend is to read up to Chapter 6, page 50. Be sure to keep up with your reading log. Write down the names, descriptions of characters as they are introduced. Also write down the events of the story (the plot points) and any interesting thing that catches your attention: a really bizarre character, a line, a word, figurative language that you encounter in the story. And finally, jot down your response to the events and the characters in the story.

Read Ender’s Games; chapter 6. For homework read up to chapter 8; “Rat”; page 97.

Grammar handouts! Yup, more grammar. Adjective Clauses; exercise 1; numbers 1 - 8. Additional assignment: Write three original sentences using adjective clauses. This will be due on Wednesday, June 15th.

Tuesday, June 14th:

Shortened day!

Your Romeo and Juliet reading log will be due today. See above if you are unclear about what should be in your reading log. You might want to include the notes (the stuff I scribbled on the board) and the things we discussed in class in your reading log.

Today we are going to discuss last night’s reading (“Salamander”, chapter 7) and then read and discuss chapter 8, (”Rat”). For homework read chapter 9, “Locke and Demosthenes”. And of course, don’t forget your “captain’s log”.

Wednesday, June 15th:

Your adjective clause homework is due today.

You will be assigned another grammar handout but this one will be on “adverbial
clauses”. The additional assignment will be to write three sentences using adverbial clauses. This assignment will be due on Friday, June 17th.

We are going to climb into the spinning shuttle and strap ourselves in for another thrilling read of Ender’s Game. We will discuss last night’s reading of chapter 9, and then press on to chapter 10, “Dragon” for tonight’s reading.

Thursday, June 16th:

Bring your vocabulary book today. We will do one last chapter in the book and then kiss it good bye. The pages will be from 92 to 107, and this will be due on Tuesday, June 21st. I’m not going to test you on it so the homework will count double.

We will discuss last night’s reading of “Dragon” and then press on and read chapter 11, “Veni Vidi Vici” for tonight.

Friday, June 17th:

Your adverbial clause handout will be due. I will give you yet another handout on “Sentence Structure”; the additional assignment will be to write two sentences each; two simple sentences, two complex sentences, two compound sentences and two complex-compound sentences. This will be due on Wednesday, June 22nd.

We are going to discuss last night’s reading of chapter 11 and then press on to chapter 12, “Bonzo”.

For homework over the weekend, we will finish chapter 12 and then read chapters 13, “”Valentine”, and chapter 14, “Ender’s Teacher”. And of course, do your “captain’s log.”
