March 20, 2017 - March 24, 2017 Agenda

Monday, March 20th: 

Friday, March 24th is the last day to turn in your AR test and reading log.
To get a “C” you must have at least five entries
To get a “B” you must have at least six entries
To get an “A” you must have at least seven entries 

PSA Presentations: 
Malia and Sandy - a cute video "Don't Do Drugs" (Must turn in a script for the video)
Hellen and Sandy - a slide on "Teamwork", using the Cyclops to illustrate how Odysseus used teamwork to escape the Cyclops
Briana and Pamela - small poster with lots of text; both were reading from the poster. 
Julio and Danny - presented a small half finished poster on .......

Go to page 708, reread the secret Odysseus and Penelope shared that made her know Odysseus had truly returned. 

Draw a picture of the bedroom Odysseus built with his own hands. 

Vocabulary: 
 Abyss: a very dark, very, very deep hole from which there is no bottom and light cannot escape.

Read  page 709; lines 1412 to 1416 and then figure out who is being compared to what. 
Reread the extended metaphor on page 709. Who is the swimmer? Who is the long for beach?

After Odysseus’ men are killed by Zeus’ lightning bolt for eating Helio’s cattle, what happens to Odysseus?
He winds up on Calypso’s island, where he stays for five years.

“In media res” means the middle!

Shroud – a cloth covering for the dead. Penelope during the day was weaving a shroud for her father’s-in-law dead body – but he wasn’t dead yet.

At night Penelope was undoing the shroud.  This went for three years.

Don't forget to go over Vocabulary Workshop Unit 5
Prepare them for the Unit 5 Vocabulary test

Friday, March 24th: 
Students submitted their AR tests and reading logs today.
 Corrected the test The Odyssey: The Return of the King together in class.
