October 17th Weekly
Schedule for
9th Grade

Monday, October 17th:

District Mandated Periodic Assessment. Reading Comprehension and multiple choice questions.

4th Period: You will present your “The Necklace - Continuing the Story” and then we will begin working on the periodic assessment.

For homework: work on “The Necklace” vocabulary, grammar and comprehension packet.

Tuesday, October 18th:

I am not going to be here today. Mr. Itkin and I will be going to Sony to pick up costumes and props. You will continue working on the periodic assessment.

Wednesday, October 19th:

Continue working on essay part of the periodic assessment. The essay will be due at the end of the period.

Thursday, October 20th:

Your “The Necklace” vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension packet will be due today. There will be a brief test over “The Necklace”.
Begin reading “The Gift of the Magi”.

Friday, October 21st:

Finish reading “The Gift of the Magi”. Compare and contrast the characters of Della and Mathilde Loisel. We will begin working on yet another essay comparing and contrasting the two characters of Della from “The Gift of the Magi” and Mathilde Loisel in “The Necklace”. This essay will be due on Tuesday, October 25th.

Next week (the week of October 24th) we will be reading Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado” and writing a short skit using dramatic, situational and verbal irony.

The week of October 31st, we will work on our literary analysis. Be sure that you are finished with your book by then and have your reading log completed. An additional idea might be to include in your reading log selected passages, lines, and quotations that you find interesting, compelling or that shed insights into the characters, plot, or themes of the story.
