WEEKLY SCHEDULE

9TH GRADE ENGLISH
SEPTEMBER 29TH - OCTOBER 3RD
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH:
1st Period:
Today we will be visited today by our guest artists/teachers, Ruth McKee, Marcos Najeros and Brent Blair who will work with us on irony in “The Necklace”.
4th Period:
Today we will be assigned our vocabulary books, VOCABULARY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT. Pages 4 - 15; exercises 1 - 4 and 6 - 9 will be assigned today and the homework will be due on Friday, October 3rd. Please bring your vocabulary book every day to class this week.
“The Necklace” vocabulary, grammar and literary terms handout will be passed out today. We will play “pictionary” with the vocabulary words from “The Necklace.”
We will break into groups to demonstrate situational irony.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH:
NO SCHOOL TODAY IN OBSERVANCE OF ROSHANANA.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1ST:
1ST PERIOD:

Break into groups and write a continuation of the story of “The Necklace” . The title of the assignment is “What Happens Next?” You will break into groups and continue the story after the last line of the short story. What happens after Mathilde finds out the truth? You will present these on Thursday, October 2nd.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2ND:
1ST PERIOD:
Today we will do pictionary using our ten of our vocabulary words from pages 4 - 15 in our VOCABULARY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.
Continue working on our “The Necklace” vocabulary, grammar and literary terms packet.
Break into groups and write a short scene demonstrating situational irony.
4th PERIOD:
Present your group’s continuation of the story “The Necklace”. “What Happens Next?” when Mathilde learns the truth.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD:
1ST PERIOD:
Present your short scene demonstrating situational irony to the class.
1ST AND 4TH PERIODS:
Today our vocabulary homework is due: VOCABULARY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS; pages 4 - 15; exercises 1 - 4 and 6 - 9.
Write a short story using ten of your vocabulary words.
We will begin working on an essay comparing and contrasting irony in the two short stories we have read, “The Sniper” and “The Necklace”. This essay will be due on Tuesday, October 7th.
